MISSION AND VISION

The guidance services of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College is an integral part of the Student Services that relate compatibly with instruction and is supportive of the mission, goals, and objectives of the college. Based on the assumption that every human being is of value and has a right to optimum development, the guidance program is organized and implemented for the sole purpose of helping each student develop in a healthy and positive manner to full maturity as a person.

MISSION:

Committed to equip students with necessary tools for self-actualization through: Dealing with school and life adjustment; Enhancement of academics and personal skills; Discover the potential and capabilities of students; Matching interest with career choice; Learning strategies for coping and managing stress; Focus on the focal point of Student development: C - Career, A - Academic, S - Social, E – Emotional Development.

GUIDANCE PROGRAM AND SERVICES

1. INFORMATION

Readily available information for students concerning personal, educational and career opportunities through bulletin board, guidance manual, guidance newsletter, guidance journal, pamphlets and magazines.

Career campaign and orientation are facilitated to graduating high school students in assisting them in selecting appropriate courses suited to their interest and needs.

Freshmen and transferee’s orientation is conducted before the school opening to inform new students about school environment, its facilities, policies, personnel, and their duties as students necessary for school adjustment. Seminars and Job Fair are also initiated to prepare and equip students for the world of work.

2. TESTING

The role of testing is to assist and support student self-understanding through objective result and information. It involves the administration, scoring and interpretation of different psychological test. Entrance examination is conducted for the incoming freshmen to measure and match their interest and academic potential suited to their chosen course. Psychological test is administered to upper level students and the results will be utilized for research and program environment.

3. COUNSELING

Counseling session is conducted in an individual and group of students need assistance in understanding and awareness of themselves, making wise decision, take positive steps and express a desirable course of action in attaining his/her life goals. Guidance provides and develops problem solving and decision making skills in his/her personal and career choice in a non-judgmental and confidential environment.Facilitate referrals from teachers, parents, classmates and school personnel are also entertained.

Peer Facilitators are organized and trained group of students to become good listener and helpers to their fellow students in school adjustment, emotional and social aspect.

4. STUDENT INDIVIDUAL INVENTORY

Students’ records are available and stored in database and individual folder which provide an easy access of information of the students’ personal data, family background, previous scholastic record, socioeconomic status, interest, and reason why he/she chooses CHMSC as his/ her school.

5. CAREER AND PLACEMENT SERVICE

This service provides assistance to students in developing a greater sense of awareness in their career development to obtain educational and occupational information suited to their academic knowledge, skills, and attitude.

Organizing a series of seminars like “social graces, career opportunities and preparation for the world of work” are facilitated.

6. FOLLOW-UP SERVICE

This program aims to evaluate the outcome of the services. It involves series of evaluation, records and evidences about the progress and success of the different programs and services of the guidance. Tracers for graduates are facilitated.

7. RESEARCH AND EXTENSION

Guidance explores different possibilities to come up with quality service to students. Test results, needs assessment survey, evaluation of different guidance program are utilized to formulate, redefine and modified the guidance services anchored to the demands of the society. Research done is forwarded to guidance information service.

8.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The program aims to update, retrain, recharge and motivate guidance personnel in their professional development through attending Guidance and Counseling Seminar and work-shop facilitated by PGCA and IPCAP. Updated license for guidance personnel is a must to give quality assurance service to students.

9. SCHOLARSHIPS, LOAN GRANTS AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

It assists the Office of the Student Affairs in the implementation of the different scholarships and loan grants and how to avail of them. This is aimed of helping poor and deserving students who finds difficulty in pursuing college education. It serves as coordinator to various scholarship programs.
